About "Press Club of Sikkim"

Press Club of Sikkim, the apex body of journalists and media workers of Sikkim, was established in 2002 with its head-office in Gangtok, the State capital. The Press Club of Sikkim is registered with the Government of Sikkim.

AIMS & OBJECTIVES

The Press Club of Sikkim works for the welfare and interests of journalists, registered media houses and their employees. It strives to foster unity among all media professionals, create an environment of growth of media in Sikkim, and take up the issues & grievances of media workers with the concerned authorities.

The organisation also acts as a bridge or interface between the journalists of Sikkim and media-related agencies/bodies of outside Sikkim.

The Press Club of Sikkim engages its members and non-members who are also journalists with regular activities like workshops and exposure trips. The organisation also honours and encourages the journalists of Sikkim through its three annual awards – Kanchenjunga KalamPuraskhar, LaganshilYuvaPatrakarPuraskhar and GrameenPatrakaritaPurashkar.

About Our Organisation:

The Press Club of Sikkim presently has 143 members from daily newspapers, weekly newspapers, freelance journalists and electronic/digital media houses.

The organisation is guided by the general body consisting of these members and is administrated by an executive committee consisting of 12 members.

The Press Club of Sikkim, since its inception, was running from rented premises in Gangtok. In 2019, the Government of Sikkim allotted a building as ‘PatrakarBhawan’ to the Press Club of Sikkim located at MP Golai, Tadong in Gangtok city.

The Press Club of Sikkim receives an annual grant from the Government of Sikkim to manage its expenses and run the organisation. The organisation further has a ‘Journalists Welfare Fund’ through which financial assistance is provided to members in medical distress / bereavement.

Grameen Patrakarita Puraskar (Rural Journalism Award)

The GrameenPatrakaritaPuraskar (Rural Journalism Award) was constituted by the Press Club of Sikkim in 2012 to recognize those journalists who have been constantly reporting on rural issues and events, thus bringing positive developments in rural Sikkim and benefiting our villagers. The award consists of a citation, memento, cash prize and shawl, and is presented during the National Press Day Celebrations.
